20. Baylor (6-1)

Week 7 result: Defeated BYU 38-24

This was an outcome that I saw coming on Saturday. I figured BYU was slightly overrated but I also have been pretty impressed with Baylor compared to most people. They still only have one loss and have beaten their opponents by an average of 20 points.

Running back Abram Smith had his best game of the season and ran all over BYU. He finished with 188 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Smith was the true difference-maker in this one. His running ability allowed the Bears to have long drives which kept BYU’s offense off the field.

Keep an eye out for this Baylor team that is still in contention for the Big 12 title.

Next game: BYE

21. SMU (6-0)

Week 7 result: BYE

The final ranked team that was on a bye in Week 7 was SMU. The Mustangs needed an off week to get some things right after a sluggish win against Navy. However, they are still undefeated and will take that record into their game this Thursday night against Tulane. Now even though the Green Wave are 1-5, you cannot underestimate them as they have a high-powered offense and have played well against some really good competition.

Next game: vs. Tulane
My prediction: Win 45-33

22. San Diego State (6-0)

Week 7 result: Defeated San Jose State 19-13

The Aztecs are holding onto that perfect record by the skin of their teeth. It took two overtimes to defeat San Jose State in what was a very ugly game. I feel bad for anyone who bet the over in this one. The score was 6-6 at the end of regulation and there wasn’t a single touchdown scored until the first overtime.

With all that said, San Diego State stays undefeated.

The one positive is their defense which has been stout all year long. But their offense has got to improve. They couldn’t move the ball for the majority of the game until they brought in backup quarterback Lucas Johnson. He completed two passes in this game and both of them were for touchdowns. Yes, they were both in overtime so the field position was prime, but still, they got way more out of him than they did with starter Jordon Brookshire.

Next game: vs. Air Force
My prediction: Lose 19-16
