As a Michigan State alum, I’m a huge fan of what Mel Tucker has done with this program in a short period of time. The Spartans are 7-0 on the year and this is a team that people predicted to finish the season in last place in the Big Ten East. And right now, the Spartans are contending for a conference title.

Unfortunately for Michigan State, it’s dealing with some Tucker to LSU rumors which will happen when you have a successful head coach and a job opens up at a perennial powerhouse program. I don’t see him leaving, but you never know.

As for the Spartans, they are undefeated with five games left and they control their own destiny. They have an explosive offense and a defense that doesn’t give up a ton of points which is why they’ve been so good.

Michigan State got a bye at the perfect time as Michigan is next up on Oct. 30 in East Lansing in what might be the most anticipated game in the rivalry in decades. If Michigan State wins, there’s a good chance it’s 10-0 before facing Ohio State and then Penn State to close the year.

For now, though, the Spartans will move up in the top 10.
