ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 9: Does the ACC have the best QBs?
By Dante Pryor
This week, the Tar Heels were off after winning a close game against the Miami Hurricanes 45-42 in Chapel Hill. This is a critical stretch for North Carolina. The Tar Heels play Notre Dame, Wake Forest, and Pittsburgh in consecutive weeks.
Offensively, Sam Howell needs help. Joshua Dobbs has been UNC’s only reliable receiver. Howell has added responsibilities in the running game, and he has responded (Howell is second on the team in rushing).
That said, the Heels may be 4-6 after this stretch.
The Wolfpack defense was uncharacteristically pedestrian against the Miami Hurricanes last weekend. NC State allowed 108 total yards and 15 points above their season average. Running backs Ricky Pearson and Zonovan Knight combined for 17 carries.
Those stats are uncharacteristic of how the ‘Pack has played this season. All contributed to their one-point loss in Coral Gables. With four games left against ACC Atlantic opponents, the Wolfpack still has a say in who wins the division.
Hopefully, the losses of linebacker Isaiah Moore and guard Chandler Zavala are not detrimental to their season.
No matter what happens the rest of this season, no one can say that the Cavaliers have not been fun to watch this season. The defense is not very good, and they can’t run the football, but their games do not disappoint.
After their close 48-40 win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the Cavaliers travel to Provo for the Bronco Bowl against the BYU Cougars. It doesn’t get any easier in two weeks when the Cavaliers play Notre Dame.
