I’m a big believer in Iowa State this season despite a somewhat disappointing 6-3 record through nine games. The Cyclones imposed their will over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night, 30-7. This team is better than people give it credit for and don’t count the Cyclones out from the Big 12 title.

San Diego State is looking to make a statement on the road on Saturday night against Hawaii. If Brady Hoke and the Aztecs do that, they stay in that 20-25 range.

The “Spoilermakers” conjured up some magic in yet another top-five battle in West Lafayette on Saturday afternoon as they took down No. 3 Michigan State 40-29. Aidan O’Connell had the best game of his career as the Boilermakers made enough stops to hold off the Spartans. Things got tight late, but a pick changed everything near the goal-line. This is Purdue’s second top-five win of the year and I think that’s enough to earn a spot in the playoff rankings.

I was impressed with what I saw from Utah on Friday night. I thought Stanford might give the Utes a run for their money, but with a 52-7 win over a team that upset Oregon earlier this season, I think we will see the Utes jump into the playoff rankings. Kyle Whittingham’s run game is elite and the Utes will be the second Pac-12 team to join the rankings for Week 11.

Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks had a chance to pick up a statement win over a ranked SEC foe on Saturday and they did just that beating No. 17 Mississippi State 31-28 despite Will Rogers’ huge game. The Razorbacks should take Mississippi State’s place in the rankings this week after the big win and Pittman needs to be back in the conversation for coach of the year.
