Group of Five Power Rankings, Week 11: SMU, Air Force in free fall
Utah State has one of the most fun offenses to watch among any team in the Group of Five. They’re red hot and riding a four-game winning streak. QB Logan Bonner is averaging 312 passing yards in the four wins for the Aggies. WR Devin Thompkins leads the country with the most total receiving yards with 1,314 yards entering their tenth game of the season.
Nevada took care of business at home against San Jose State to improve to 7-2. It took a 45-yard field goal in the game’s final seconds to do it, but this late in the season, a win is a win. Nevada’s last three games are tough: on the road at San Diego State, a home game against Air Force, and a road game at Colorado State to end the season.
Appalachian State absolutely dominated Arkansas State 48-14 last week. They totally picked the Red Wolves apart, recording three interceptions and keeping A-State scoreless for three of the game’s four quarters. Running backs Nate Noel and Camerun Peoples ran all over the porous Red Wolves defense for more than 115 yards apiece and two total rushing touchdowns.
San Diego State was able to hang on for a tough road win at Hawai’i 17-10. The Aztecs forced two turnovers and won the time of possession by nearly 10 minutes against the Rainbow Warriors. SDSU turn their attention to an incredibly difficult game at home against Nevada.
Louisiana has one of the longest winning streaks of the season among any team in the Group of Five. They have won eight consecutive games now this season. The last time they lost a game, it was Week 1 of the season at Texas, losing by 20 points. The Ragin Cajuns have a game at Troy followed by a game at Liberty, which all Group of Five football fans have circled on Nov. 20.
