3. UAB at Marshall

UAB and Marshall meet Saturday afternoon in a big game for both teams with identical records of 6-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The two teams met in last year’s Conference USA title game with the Blazers emerging victorious.

UAB enters the game winning three out of their last four however the one loss was to Rice in a game the Blazers were heavy favorites. The Blazers are averaging just over 28 points per game and are fairly balanced on offense. Quarterback Dylan Hopkins has thrown for 1,473 yards and 11 touchdowns while running back DeWayne McBride leads the team in rushing with 837 yards and eight scores.

Marshall is clearly looking for revenge after last year’s loss in the title game. The Thundering Herd are on a four game winning streak after a three game losing streak earlier in the season. They are putting up nearly 500 yards per game, led by quarterback Grant Wells who is approaching 3,000 yards on the season.

Marshall’s offense is clicking but do not count UAB out. If the Blazers win, they will still be a game behind UTSA in the West division however the two teams meet next week which will likely decide the division. Marshall needs a win to keep pace with Western Kentucky in the East division.
