2. Virginia at (18) Pittsburgh

The ACC Coastal division is on the line as Virginia travels to Pittsburgh. With a win the Panthers clinch their way to the ACC Championship game. A Cavalier win will not decide the division but would put them in front, only needing a win over rival Virginia Tech next week to seal it.

These teams have not met since 2019, a Cavalier victory. The four preceding matchups were decisive for the Panthers. All time Pitt has the edge in the series.

Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett looks to continue his fantastic season. The super senior is looking to become Pitt’s first Heisman winner since Tony Dorsett in 1976. While he may not win, he has a decent shot of being invited to the ceremony in December.

The Cavs will have their hands full trying to contain Pickett. Virginia’s pass defense is good however they do not generate a lot of pressure. Their rush defense is terrible, ranking dead last in the conference and 122nd overall in the country. If the Cavs do find a way to slow down Pickett, the Panthers will have to get their running game going which has been mostly pedestrian this season.

The other issue for Virginia is the status of quarterback Brennan Armstrong. Even if he plays, how close to 100% will he be? The Cavaliers offense rides on his health.

Most of the factors in this one favor Pitt. But that’s why the games are played. Should be a good one Saturday afternoon from Heinz Field.
