CFP Playoff Rankings: Recapping Week 13 for the top 6
By Mitch Kaiser
5. Oklahoma State (11-1)
Week 13 result: Defeated Oklahoma 37-33
It’s a little bit surprising to see Oklahoma State jump Notre Dame in the rankings this week. But I guess their four-point win over Oklahoma was enough to impress the committee.
It also shows that the committee still values being in a Power 5 conference over being independent.
The Cowboys finally beat the Sooners this year after losing six straight to their rival. And let me tell you, this was the Bedlam game of all Bedlam games.
This was another one of the most entertaining games of the weekend that included a whole lot of drama. You would have really loved this game if you enjoy chaos. It had interceptions, punt fumbles, safeties, and missed field goals.
You name it, it happened in Bedlam. Oklahoma State’s defense, which has been so dominant all season, was getting abused early on giving up 24 points in the first half.
It was by far the most they had allowed in a half all season. Oklahoma State looked lost out there for a while and had no answer for Caleb Williams. The Cowboys even went down 33-24 at one point and it seemed like an insurmountable deficit to overcome.
After that, this Cowboy defense locked in and shut down the Sooners the rest of the game. This gave QB Spencer Sanders a lot of chances to lead a comeback in which he finally did late in the game. He had a clutch 37-yard rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter followed by a Jaylen Warren touchdown to take the lead.
This was enough to get the Cowboys the dub as their defense stepped up big in the second half. They had two huge defensive stops late in the 4th to seal the deal where they got pressure on Caleb Williams on almost every play. Oklahoma State has led the nation in sacks all year long and continued that strength recording six more in this one. Good for Mike Gundy who finally beat Oklahoma once again and has his team in prime playoff position.
