College Football Playoff Rankings 2021: Final Top 25 projections
Sam Pittman’s second season at Arkansas was a massive success. Finishing 8-4 at Arkansas is a huge success because in the two years before he showed up, the Razorbacks were winless in SEC play. He deserves to be in national coach of the year talks and he’s got this program trending in the right direction.
It’s weird seeing Clemson not playing for an ACC title, but the Tigers’ “disappointing” 9-3 regular season meant that they missed out on the conference championship. Still, Dabo Swinney’s team has a chance to win its 10th game during bowl season which is wild because everyone just assumes they had a horrible year.
I don’t see Wake Forest falling too far despite not beating Pitt in the ACC title game. The Demon Deacons had an impressive 10-3 season and won’t be in a New Year’s Six bowl, but the program is headed in the right direction, especially with Dave Clawson signing an extension.
Iowa wasn’t able to keep up with Michigan in the Big Ten title game and everyone kind of assumed that would happen. I don’t see the Hawkeyes dropping too far in the final rankings, but they will be out of New Year’s Six contention with the defeat. A 10-3 season isn’t too shabby but after the scorching-hot start, it’s somewhat disappointing.
Oregon probably deserves to be ranked lower than No. 16, but I don’t see the Ducks dropping more than 7-8 spots after making a Power Five conference title game. The Ducks’ kryptonite this season was apparently Utah and it might end up costing them both Joe Moorhead (took the Akron job) and Mario Cristobal (Miami is interested). Horrible end to the year for this former No. 2 team.
