NC State may be one of the most overlooked teams in college football and after finishing 9-3, Dave Doeren and the Wolfpack deserve some respect. Playing in the ACC almost eliminates any respect if you don’t win the conference title, however. Still, finishing No. 15 in the playoff rankings isn’t too shabby.

The committee is going to take a look at the fact that the Sooners lost Lincoln Riley and probably keep them at No. 14 or even drop them a spot or two. Spencer Rattler is transferring and Riley is off to USC and it feels like Oklahoma is in dumpster fire mode right now.

BYU is likely going to drop out of New Year’s Six consideration to make room for Pitt and Utah even though they were already locks, but not being in that top 12 might be the nail in the coffin. This was still a fantastic year for BYU as the Cougars finished 10-2 and will get a nice bowl game.

Pitt ran away with the ACC title and the Panthers will be headed to the New Year’s Six. Kenny Pickett had another great game and could find himself in New York for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony next week while Pat Narduzzi finally captured his first conference title since taking over in 2015. It’s nice to see someone not named Clemson win the ACC.

Utah is going to see quite the leap after a Pac-12 Championship blowout of Oregon, 38-10. The Utes beat the Ducks twice in the final three weeks and it’s pretty clear that they were the best team in the Pac-12 this season. The Utes will be headed to the Rose Bowl after beating the Ducks and winning the Pac-12.
