Alabama has the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner in the Cotton Bowl 2021

Alabama has the luxury of having the best player in all of college football guiding their offense in the Cotton Bowl.

Sophomore Bryce Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, had an off-the-charts season for the Tide. He recorded 4,322 passing yards, 43 touchdown passes, and just four interceptions to lead Alabama to a one-loss season.

Having the Heisman Trophy winner comes with an added bonus. It turns out, history is on the side of Alabama winning this CFB Playoff Semi-Final against the Bearcats.

The Heisman Trophy winner has won four out of a possible six games in the CFB Playoff era. Here’s what the past seven winners have done in the first round of the playoffs.

  • 2014: Marcus Mariota: Oregon defeated Florida State
  • 2015: Derrick Henry: Alabama defeated Michigan State
  • 2016: N/A (Lamar Jackson and Louisville were not in the CFB Playoffs)
  • 2017: Baker Mayfield: Oklahoma lost in 2OT to Georgia
  • 2018: Kyler Murray: Oklahoma lost to Alabama
  • 2019: Joe Burrow: LSU defeated Oklahoma
  • 2020: DeVonta Smith: Alabama defeated Notre Dame

History, it seems favors the Tide in this game. It’s tough to beat a Heisman winner on the big stage. There’s little reason to think Young will falter in the Playoffs.
