Arkansas Football: 3 reasons to watch Outback Bowl vs. Penn State
By Shane Lunnen
3. SEC vs. Big Ten
The SEC and Big Ten face one another frequently during bowl seasons and this year is no different. In recent years the two Power Five conferences have been the toughest so it is always fun to watch these matchups in bowl games.
This year there are four such matchups. Purdue already defeated Tennessee in a wild Music City Bowl. Iowa takes on Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl and the biggest matchup of course is in the Orange Bowl with Michigan facing Georgia in the College Football Playoff.
All time, the SEC has a 98-67-2 mark over the Big Ten. In bowl games, the conference still reigns supreme with a 59-33 record.
Looking at Arkansas, they are 1-6-1 all-time against the Big Ten and 0-4 in bowl games. This is the first time the Razorbacks and Nittany Lions will square off on the gridiron.
Penn State has some more history against the SEC than Arkansas with the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions have a 17-21 overall record but are 10-8 versus the SEC in bowls. Their most frequent opponent has been Alabama, mostly from the years Penn State was an independent.
The SEC clearly has been a great conference as of late but the Big Ten is not too far behind. Bragging rights are on the line with all these enticing matchups between the conferences.
