Xavier Chaplin, 3-star OT

Michigan did a really solid job on the defensive side of the ball with the 2022 recruiting class and frankly, it did pretty well on offense too.

There are just a couple of needs to be filled. One of those was at running back where the Wolverines would like to add another big body like Hassan Haskins.

Another position that Michigan would like to take another recruit is along the offensive line as we can tell from their interest in Conerly Jr. Obviously, Conerly Jr. would take a regardless. But he’s not the only offensive lineman being recruited right now for 2022.

Another is Virginia Tech commit Xavier Chaplin. He’s 6-foot-6, 355 pounds, and didn’t sign with Virginia Tech in the early period. Of course, there was a coaching change there, and he was offered by the Wolverines earlier this month.

If Conerly winds up in the class, it’s hard to know if there would be room for Chaplin but if Michigan football strikes out on the five-star and still wants to add an offensive tackle, Chaplin is a good option.

He’s a low-ranking three-star outside the top 1,000 but he’s worth developing. He was supposed to visit Ann Arbor but didn’t due to a family illness according to 247 sports.

We’ll see if he does but Louisville is in the mix and Virginia Tech is trying to get him signed so he’s another name to watch but maybe a little lower on the radar.
