4. Wake Forest

Wake Forest? Yes, before you call me crazy, just look at what the Demon Deacons are returning in 2022. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Sam Hartman and his top target AT Perry with one of the most explosive offenses in college football.

Dave Clawson deserves a ton of credit for what he’s done at Wake Forest because who would have thought that the Demon Deacons would be mentioned along with “national title contenders” heading into 2022? Definitely not me, but he’s assembled a really good roster with one of the most exciting offenses in the nation.

However, the defense needs to find a way to catch up to the offense and if that does happen, watch out, college football.

Wake Forest is probably the top competition for Clemson in the ACC title race. If the Demon Deacons are able to win the ACC and upend Pitt and Clemson, they’ll be in a position to make the playoff.

A lot of way-too-early rankings projections have the Demon Deacons in the top 10 and in a position to contend for their first-ever national title.
