Scott Frost needs to prove he can win at Nebraska

It’s hard to believe that Scott Frost has had four full seasons as the head coach of Nebraska football and still hasn’t produced more than five wins in a season.

Florida and other big-time programs wanted to hire Frost and why not after leading UCF to an undefeated season?

It seemed like Nebraska finally got the right head coach too. The Huskers have really been searching since Tom Osborne left and Frost, who led the program to its last national title victory under Dr. Tom seemed like the perfect fit.

The prodigal son as it were.

Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned. Adrian Martinez couldn’t get over the hump at quarterback and for years, this team has found ways to lose games that one didn’t think were possible (punting in the wrong direction? Really??).

But with new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, as well as basically an entirely new offensive staff, Frost and the Huskers seem to be on the right track. Nebraska added former Texas starter Casey Thompson in the transfer portal as well as Chubba Purdy, a former 4-star from Florida State.

Plus, Nebraska has put together a top-10 class in the portal. Trev Alberts, the AD and another guy who played for Osborne decided to keep Frost, sort of like Michigan did after Jim Harbaugh struggled to a 2-4 campaign.

Will it work out the same? Only time will tell. But if Frost can’t lead Nebraska to a winning season in 2022, he will be out of a job.

And what’s more disturbing for Nebraska fans: If Frost can’t win at Nebraska, who can?
