College Football: The best team from each Power Five conference for 2022
By Austin Lloyd
SEC: Alabama Crimson Tide
No one outside of Tuscaloosa is happy with this selection, and that includes myself. However, above all else, I am a man of objectivity, and the only thing that the college football world has learned over the course of Nick Saban’s tenure with the Crimson Tide is that they never stay down.
Football fans may always enjoy seeing Alabama fall short of a national title, but it never stays that way. Bama haters were elated to see them fall in the semifinal against Ohio State back in the 2014 season, yet still watched the Tide win it all the very next year.
That’s not the only example, either. Haters were happy when Clemson won the 2016 title, but that didn’t stop Alabama from taking the next one. And while the Tide saw a two-year hiatus after that, they won in the COVID-19 season with what was quite possibly the most overbearing squad of their last three title-winning ones.
And today, the Georgia Bulldogs are the defending champs, the Crimson Tide are out for revenge, and the latter currently has the superior 2022 recruiting class. At this rate, declaring that Alabama will be the best SEC team next season is not even a prediction. Rather, it is a story that we have all read too many times.
