Defensive Line

Starting Defensive Ends: Ali Gaye and BJ Ojulari

Backups: Soni Fonua and Quency Wiggins

Starting Defensive Tackles: Maason Smith and Jaquelin Roy

Backups: Mekhi Wingo and Joseph Evans

Like wide receiver was on offense, the defensive line for LSU is the best unit on the defense. There could be depth concerns in spots, but this is one of the best units in the SEC.

The Tigers are going to have one of the best pass-rushing duos in the country with Ali Gaye and BJ Ojulari. The two combined for nearly 10 sacks last season, but if both guys are healthy, you can expect to see that number rise this season. Soni Fonua did well as a starter when Gaye went down with an injury and he will be a key backup this season. Quency Wiggins is a guy that has potential through the roof.

At defensive tackle, Maason Smith is going to be the alpha of the group. One of the highest-rated recruits in 2021, Smith made his impact last year before getting injured. If he can pick up where he left off, a dominant season should be in store. LSU is so talented up front that while Jaquelin Roy is the other projected starter, it could be guys like Missouri transfer Mekhi Wingo or Joseph Evans.
