3. Josh Heupel, Tennessee

I’m not saying Josh Heupel is talked about as one of the best the SEC has to offer, but the first-year Tennessee head coach was given a ton of credit for going 7-6 in 2021. Maybe too much credit.

Sure, Heupel did a solid job with the Volunteers in his first season, leading them to a bowl game, but if you really sit down and look at the wins and losses, you’ll realize that maybe it wasn’t that great. His signature win was over No. 18 Kentucky on the road which deserves praise, but other than that, his wins were against Tennessee Tech, Bowling Green, Missouri, South Carolina, South Alabama, and Vanderbilt.

Most of his wins were against SEC bottom-dwellers and non-conference cupcakes so can we really consider his first season a success?

The combined score against Alabama and Georgia was 93-41 and it’s pretty clear he has a ton of work to do. Let’s not praise him for the job he’s done until he proves himself.
