Projected starter for Florida football: Emory Jones

Prior to last season, Florida football QB Emory Jones was getting talked about as a potential Heisman candidate and most college football analysts expected him to have a breakout season in 2021 as the Gators starter.

Yet, we all know that didn’t happen. Florida struggled mightily to win games and while Jones had some productive moments, he also split time with Anthony Richardson.

Jones threw 18 touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions and also ran for over 500 yards. New head coach Billy Napier was able to get Jones and Richardson to stay, as well as adding former four-star recruit Jack Miler at QB from Ohio State.

Miller is going to factor into the race too but Jones is still the best option as long as he can play up to his abilities. Napier will probably value his dual-threat capabilities and while Richardson can run, he’s not a proven passer, which is why Jones emerges and has a solid 2022 season.
