Big 12 Football: 10 newcomers who’ll have instant impacts in 2022
By Dante Pryor
Colby Reeder, LB
Delaware transfer linebacker Colby Reeder plugs a much-needed hole with the departures of linebackers Jake Hummel and Mike Rose. Reeder was the top priority for the Cyclones with linebackers coach Tyson Veidt going to the eastern seaboard to visit him personally.
Reeder entered the portal back in November and took visits to Iowa State, Rutgers, and Kansas State before deciding on Ames. The former Blue Hen has one year of eligibility left. Reeder leaves Delaware after recording 161 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and four interceptions in 33 games.
Dillon Gabriel, QB
There is a saying that familiarity breeds contempt. That is not in the case of football. Former UCF quarterback Dillon Gabriel was set to go back to the West Coast and compete with Dorian Thompson-Robinson for the starting job at UCLA.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby and Gabriel are reunited which could be a reason that Gabriel flipped to Oklahoma. Lebby was Gabriel’s offensive coordinator at UCF in 2019, his freshman year before moving to Ole Miss. The Hawai’i native comes to Oklahoma with two years of eligibility.
