5. Texas Longhorns

This might seem kind of crazy given the fact that the Longhorns finished just 5-7 last year and missed out on the postseason in Steve Sarkisian’s first season, but the talent is there.

Not only does Texas have one of the most talented rosters in the country heading into 2022, it also has plenty of opportunity. What do I mean by this? The Big 12 is wide open with Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma for USC and many wondering if Baylor can repeat. The Bears will likely be the Longhorns’ top competition along with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the Big 12, but they have more than enough talent to win.

Bijan Robinson will be a Heisman contender, Quinn Ewers transfers in from Ohio State to play quarterback, and Xavier Worthy will be one of the best receivers in the country. Texas’ offense will be explosive, so it’s up to the defense to catch up and make the Longhorns playoff-worthy.

This is a big year for Sarkisian to prove he’s the right guy for the job and if his team plays to potential, it’ll be on the biggest stage at the end of the season.
