1. Who wins the quarterback job at Notre Dame?

This is the most pertinent question of the offseason in South Bend. The Irish must love their quarterback room since they were not aggressive in finding a quarterback in the portal. USC transfer Kedon Slovis was the only quarterback they contacted this offseason.

Notre Dame’s lack of activity in the portal was surprising because of the talent returning. The offense is talented and the defense is full of veterans. One could argue this roster is a quarterback away from being a legit national title contender.

Tyler Buchner, Drew Pyne, Ron Powlus III, and incoming freshman Steve Angeli currently construct the Notre Dame quarterback room. Buchner is the big-time prospect of the four but he has not played a lot of football.

Buchner lost two years of high school football, one to an ACL and another because of COVID. Pyne likely reminds offensive coordinator Tommy Rees of himself. Pyne is a gritty, tough-minded quarterback who is too small with an average arm but is too tough to be denied.

Angeli and Powlus are unproven at best. That said, these are the four young men competing for the starting quarterback job at the University of Notre Dame. The job is likely Buchner’s to lose. Can he lead Notre Dame to a title? Time will tell.
