3. Pitt Panthers (2021 record: 11-3)

Pitt won the ACC title in 2021 to everyone’s surprise.

The Panthers were expected to have an explosive offense, but I don’t think anyone saw Pat Narduzzi and Co. running through the ACC and topping Clemson and Wake Forest on their way to a conference title and a berth in the Peach Bowl.

But we saw what Pitt may look like without Kenny Pickett in the Peach Bowl as the Panthers struggled to score against a mediocre Michigan State defense and squandered a late lead.

I think we’ll see more of that in 2022, especially with Mark Whipple also moving on to be Nebraska’s next offensive coordinator. Kedon Slovis is coming in to boost the offense a bit and Jordan Addison is returning as the nation’s top receiver, but I just don’t see that living up to the Pickett era and the offense will struggle a bit to gain momentum.

The Panthers also have two tough non-conference games to start the year against West Virginia and Tennessee and a rough second half of the year at Louisville, at North Carolina, at Virginia, and at Miami.

No repeat here and potentially a 4-5 loss season for the Fighting Narduzzis.
