3. Spencer Rattler, South Carolina

Former five-star quarterback Spencer Rattler became the favorite punching bag of Oklahoma football fans last season and while he didn’t live up to expectations last season, many, many teams would have loved his production.

Rattler completed 74 percent of his passes. He had only 11 touchdowns before he was replaced in the starting lineup by Caleb Williams and also threw five interceptions. But for his career, Rattler has completed 70 percent of his throws and he’s one of the best throwers in college football.

Many expected Rattler to cruise to the Heisman Trophy after a stellar 2020 season that saw him throw 28 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He also accounted for six rushing touchdowns giving him 34 total in 11 games. Last year he had 11 in nine games.

Rattler went to South Carolina because he’s comfortable with Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks surprised last season putting together a winning record. Add an ultra-talented QB like Rattler to the mix and more seems possible.

But either way, by season’s end, Rattler will be viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC.
