Blake Anderson could not have asked for a better first season at Utah State. The team quenched its thirst for talent with transfers, and the result was a Mountain West title.

Logan Bonner and his 3,622 yards passing return at quarterback. But, all three of Utah State’s top receivers are gone, including 1,700-yard man Deven Thompkins.

On defense, the problem isn’t much better. Nick Heninger and Justin Rice combined for almost 200 tackles last year, and both hit the exit door as well.

BYU should win a comfortable contest.

Final Score: BYU 37, Utah State 24 (BYU 5-0)

At 36, Marcus Freeman probably shouldn’t be here. But, when Brian Kelly stunned everyone and left for LSU, the highly respected defensive coordinator was the logical choice to be head coach.

What’s left for him to coach up is a defense that returns most everyone. Well, everyone, with the huge, jeez-he-could-go-number-one exception of Kyle Hamilton at safety.

The offense has Michael Mayer, one of the best tight ends in college football. Little else returns on that side of the ball.

What results is a classic thriller in Vegas, but BYU’s talent just isn’t enough in the end.

Final Score: Notre Dame 20, BYU 17 (BYU 5-1)
