Who would have thought that Jimbo Fisher would sign the best recruiting class of all time when Nick Saban is still coaching? The Aggies are bringing in loads of talent, especially on the defensive line, and the quarterback situation will be solid with Max Johnson duking it out with Haynes King for the starting job. This may be the most talented Texas A&M team in decades.

Kyle Whittingham might be the most underrated head coach in college football and that was never more obvious than in 2021 as he led the Utes to a Pac-12 title and Rose Bowl berth where he nearly beat Ohio State. Cameron Rising is back at quarterback after a breakout season and the defense is going to give the rest of the conference problems. I’d be surprised if Utah doesn’t repeat.

How could I possibly have the reigning national champs all the way down at No. 3? Well, I’m just not completely sold on the offensive situation. The defense lost half of its starters to the NFL and a good number of them to the first round but Kirby Smart is reloading on that side of the ball. Still, is Stetson Bennett really “the guy” under center? We’ll find out if he’s built to repeat and then I’ll eat all the crow.

CJ Stroud leads one of the most prolific offenses in college football and Jaxon Smith-Njigba looks like the favorite to win the Biletnikoff Award. Oh, and you can’t forget TreVeyon Henderson. This defense is going to be really good, the offense is going to be explosive, and the experience on the roster will be enough to get back to its Big Ten title-winning ways. Watch out, Michigan, that crown may be a rental.

Whenever Nick Saban loses in the national title game, he usually bounces back to win the next year and I expect his Tide to be the favorites after falling just short in 2021. Alabama will be led by the reigning Heisman winner in Bryce Young and Jahmyr Gibbs is going to be elite in the backfield after coming over from Georgia Tech. Then there’s that defense that could be 2021 Georgia levels of stingy. Alabama is this year’s team to beat.
