I had a tough time deciding who to put at No. 2, Oregon or Arkansas, but the fact that this game is away from Provo makes it a little more difficult.

Marcus Freeman and the Irish will face BYU in Las Vegas in early October and it will be one of the best non-conference games of the season. The Cougars have what it takes to beat the Irish, but if Notre Dame figures out its quarterback position by this point (which it should), I think it will take a near-perfect effort from BYU to win.

Oregon being No. 1 on this ranking of toughness might be surprising, but Dan Lanning has done a fantastic job of bringing in talent following the departure of Mario Cristobal.

Bo Nix is projected to start at quarterback, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if Ty Thompson took over under center at some point. The position should be much stronger than it was a year ago although Anthony Brown was rather surprising.

Every position has a wealth of talent and playing at Autzen Stadium is one of the toughest venues in college football.
