The jury’s still somewhat out on Ryan Day even though I do believe he’s one of the nation’s best coaches. It’s hard to rank him any lower than the top five, but I know Ohio State fans have a sour taste in their mouths after the 2021 season in which they lost to Michigan and didn’t win a Big Ten title.

The standard at Ohio State is basically “Big Ten title or bust” and when the Buckeyes don’t win the league, it’s a problem.

Day is going to be under the spotlight this year because if he can’t beat Jim Harbaugh and Michigan in Columbus and the Buckeyes miss out on the conference title game again, there’s going to be a discussion about his future. Which is wild, I know.

Still, Day is an elite recruiter and he’s 34-4 since taking over for Urban Meyer and he even has a national title game appearance back in 2020 where he lost to Ohio State by four touchdowns.

Ohio State needs to get back to the top and Day has the players to do just that.
