Ranking college football’s top 25 head coaches for 2022
Kirby Smart at No. 3 might be surprising because he’s fresh off a national title and he’s been Nick Saban’s biggest competition in the SEC lately but No. 2 just makes more sense for another coach who has dominated over the past decade.
When Smart left Alabama after the 2015 season to take the head coaching job at Georgia, everyone knew he was going to have plenty of success on the recruiting trail because he learned from the best in Tuscaloosa. So far, that’s been the case as he brings in top classes yearly.
Georgia won the SEC title in Smart’s second season before losing in the national title game to Alabama in an overtime thriller. And then the Bulldogs made the next two SEC title games but couldn’t come out on top.
Then Georgia went 8-2 in 2020 and everyone wondered if Smart was ever going to get over that hump and beat Alabama and the Bulldogs did just that after losing to the Tide in the SEC title game. They got revenge in the national championship.
It feels like Smart and Georgia are beginning a dynasty.
