Jackson State Football: 3 Takeaways from dominant win over FAMU
By Dante Pryor
1. What’s next for the Rattlers?
Rattlers head coach Willie Simmons has to have some concerns about his defense. FAMU has allowed 115 points in two games. It’s one thing to give up that many points to an FBS opponent, but to come out flat against a rival is another thing entirely.
HOWEVER, Florida A&M does have some light at the end of the tunnel. The program is down to eight ineligible players as of this game, and the schedule is significantly more manageable. FAMU has three winnable games with Albany State, Alabama A&M, and Mississippi Valley State. The Rattlers have to fix that defense, however.
What’s next for the Tigers?
The irony of today’s blowout win was that this was the Tigers’ most challenging conference game on the schedule. Jackson State has a challenge against an improved Tennessee State team in Memphis next weekend, but it is difficult to say who can beat Jackson State this season. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders looked like the best quarterback in FCS this afternoon.
The challenge for every team that plays JSU is blocking its front seven for four quarters. If they can get past Tennessee State next weekend, it is hard to look at the schedule to find anyone that can beat them.
