5. Duke Blue Devils (3-0)

The Blue Devils might surprise the ACC early in the season. They were not very competitive last season and had a coaching change. Those two things usually mean that a program is in for a zero year. New head coach Mike Elko had other plans.

The Blue Devils have been physical in the trenches on both offense and defense in their wins against Temple, Northwestern, and North Carolina A&T. Their game at Kansas this weekend is going to be more entertaining than anyone thought before the season started.

4. Syracuse Orange (3-0, 1-0)

The Orange’s 32-29 win against Purdue was the weekend game. Syracuse has shown that they are one of the most entertaining teams in the conference. The Orange’s 3-0 start is a good omen; they won 10 games and their bowl the last time they went 3-0.

The backfield of Sean Tucker and Garrett Shrader has yielded awesome early dividends. Shrader has improved as a passer as well. Their test comes in four weeks when they host #12 North Carolina State in the Dome.

3. #12 North Carolina State (3-0)

The Wolfpack had an impressive win against visiting Texas Tech, 27-14. The offense was not particularly great, but the defense was outstanding, forcing four turnovers and sacking Red Raiders quarterback Donovan Smith four times.

Tech did nothing in the running game and had issues moving the ball on a down-to-down basis. The Wolfpack need more from their offense if they want to be serious contenders in the ACC because their defense is championship-level.
