Pac-12 Power Rankings Week 3: Huskies and Ducks dominate at home
By Dante Pryor
9. California Golden Bears (2-1)
Last Saturday, the Golden Bears lost a heartbreaker against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in South Bend. The Irish gave the Bears two opportunities to extend the game with penalties. California’s defense is legit, but the offense could hold them back.
The Bears play Arizona this weekend in a good test for both teams. Can Arizona score against a solid Cal defense? Can California score enough points against an Arizona team that can put it in the endzone?
8. UCLA Bruins (3-0)
Chip Kelly showed how little he cares about non-conference games, needing a late field goal to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars 32-31 in the Rose Bowl. South Alabama running back L’Damian Webb ran for 124 of the Jaguars’ 162 rushing yards. The offense did play well for the Bruins, with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson throwing for 263 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bruins begin Pac-12 play on the road against Colorado. The real test against the #18 Washington Huskies is UCLA’s home opener.
7. Washington State Cougars (3-0)
The Cougars are one of the more pleasant early college football season surprises. Transfer quarterback Cameron Ward has been solid, throwing for 722 yards and eight touchdowns this season. The defense has been solid, especially in their 17-14 upset of #19 Wisconsin.
Their Pac-12 football schedule opens with a challenge against #15 Oregon, who looked like a new team in their dominant performance against the BYU Cougars.
