Big 12 Power Rankings: TCU dominates, Oklahoma State defeats Baylor
By Dante Pryor
10. West Virginia Mountaineers (2-3, 0-2)
West Virginia looked fantastic against Virginia Tech in the Black Diamond Trophy game. Then it had to face Texas, and they looked like they’ve looked all season. Texas quarterback Hudson Card outplayed JT Daniels, and the offense did not look explosive. West Virginia has a bye ahead of its home game against Baylor.
9. Oklahoma Sooners (3-2, 0-2)
It was not outside the realm of possibility that TCU had a shot against Oklahoma, but the Horned Frogs made the Sooners eat a 50 burger last weekend. Dillon Gabriel went out with an injury, but the defense, not Gabriel, gave up 27 points in the first quarter. The defense better be ready for Bijan, Xavier, and that Longhorns’ offense.
8. Iowa State Cyclones (3-2, 0-2)
Head coach Matt Campbell could not have envisioned this start for the Cyclones in Big 12 play. Offensively, Iowa State has scored just 35 points in two Big 12 games, including an 11-point performance against Kansas. Campbell is an institution in Ames because of what he’s done, but he might want to consider a new offensive coordinator.
7. Texas Tech Red Raiders (3-2, 1-1)
After their win against Texas, the Red Raiders lost to a Kansas State team playing good football. Quarterback Donovan Smith has played well in Tyler Shough’s absence. Their game against #7 Oklahoma State will be entertaining, if nothing else.
6. Texas Longhorns (3-2, 1-1)
The Longhorns got back on track with a win against West Virginia this week. The Longhorns are still in the Big 12 title hunt with only one loss. What better way to stay in the title race than handing the Oklahoma Sooners a loss in the Red River Rivalry and eliminating them from Big 12 championship contention?
