2. Alabama at Tennessee

No. 3 Alabama will visit No. 6 Tennessee this weekend and for the first time in a while is only favored by a touchdown according to Fan Duel. The Crimson Tide have traditionally been the easy pick in this matchup, but this year might be a bit different.

Alabama has seemed to stutter a bit so far this year — at least by Nick Saban’s standards that is. The Tide won a close game at Texas earlier this year (20-19) and then beat Arkansas 49-26. Outside of those two opponents, Alabama has not seen a ranked team. In fact, Tennessee will be the Tide’s first top-10 challenge.

Last weekend Alabama squeaked past unranked Texas A&M in an ugly win, though in fairness were without 2021 Heisman winner Bryce Young. Young is still questionable for the Tennessee game.

Tennessee on the other hand has superseded expectations this year. So far, The Vols are 5-0 and have three ranked wins (though granted none of those teams are still ranked). In week 2 Tennessee knocked off then-No. 17 Pitt, and a few weeks later beat then-No. 20 Florida.

Last weekend the Volunteers beat No. 25 LSU 40-13 in Death Valley, and now have a chance to do the same to Alabama. Right now, Alabama is favored by a touchdown. I don’t think Tennessee wins if Bryce young plays, but I am excited about this SEC battle either way — especially since we don’t know if Young will see the field yet.

If either of these teams wants to solidify their College Football Playoff resume, this weekend’s game is the one to win.
