Orange Bowl

North Carolina v Alabama

For the second straight week, we’re holding firm on our Orange Bowl projections. North Carolina continues to represent the ACC, while Alabama survived the Grove to stay in the Orange Bowl slot.

We talked about this last week, but right now the best player no one is talking about is UNC quarterback Drake Maye. The star QB has the Heels at 9-1, but only #13 in the rankings. At this point, I think it is more likely we see UNC make a playoff push in 2023 than this season, but an Orange Bowl appearance is a great stepping stone to getting the credit I personally feel they aren’t receiving from the committee.

While the Tar Heels are on the rise, the Crimson Tide rose up to the challenge at Ole Miss, coming away with a 30-24 win. The win won’t bring Bama back to the College Football Playoff, but it does help them essentially clinch a spot in the Orange Bowl. Even if LSU were to get boat-raced in the SEC championship, their head-to-head win over Alabama should hold up and give the Tigers the right to the Sugar Bowl over Bama.

It is definitely not what Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr. were thinking when they returned to campus this season, but they can still make this a successful campaign.

Maye and Mack vs Young and Saban, a potential coaching rematch from the 2009 BCS championship. A sizzling matchup between two future NFL star quarterbacks.
