Pac-12 football power rankings: Championship Week preview edition
By Dante Pryor
12. Colorado Buffaloes (1-11, 1-8)
The Buffs were the worst team in the conference and one of the worst teams in the Power Five. Several names have floated about the head coaching job, most notably Deion Sanders and Ryan Walters. Sanders has confirmed that he’s been offered, but he’s not going to Boulder. Whoever takes the job has a tall mountain to climb.
11. Stanford Cardinal (3-9, 1-8)
It isn’t easy to describe the job David Shaw did at Stanford. He led the Cardinal to two Rose Bowl game wins and three Pac-12 titles. He is Stanford’s all-time winningest coach. The only black coach to do so at a Power Five university. Now the Cardinal have to decide what they want to do with football.
10. Arizona State Sun Devils (3-9, 2-7)
The Arizona State Sun Devils have found their head coach, hiring Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. The Sun Devils showed some life after Herman Edwards was let go. Hopefully, Dillingham has the type of contract that will allow him to endure the pending NCAA sanctions. With the talent in the state improving, the Devils need someone who can keep the best players home.
9. California Golden Bears (4-8, 2-7)
The Golden Bears struggled offensively this season. Head coach Justin Wilcox needs to find an offensive coordinator. That has been a struggle for him since he’s been a head coach. Unfortunately, he has not had the stifling defenses he’s had in seasons past.
