Season Overview: Texas Tech had a solid 2022 under first-year head coach Joey McGuire. The Red Raiders had injury issues at quarterback, with Tyler Shough, Donovan Smith, and Behren Morton all seeing significant time at QB1. That was a contributing factor to some of the inconsistencies.

2023 Outlook: Either Morton or Shough will start at quarterback in 2023. Smith entered his name in the transfer portal. The Red Raiders also return its top two running backs and top two receivers if Maguire and the Red Raiders must improve a run defense that allowed nearly 170 yards per game.
