USC football: 3 takeaways from heartbreaking Cotton Bowl loss to Tulane
1. Caleb Williams is special
As if we didn’t already know, Caleb Williams is a truly special talent.
The Heisman-winning quarterback has had a heck of a first year with USC and it’s crazy to think that he’s only a sophomore. It’s rare to see a Heisman winner playing in a non-playoff bowl game these days but since he’s not even draft eligible, it was a treat on Monday afternoon.
Williams is going to begin the 2023 season as the overwhelming favorite to repeat as the Heisman Trophy winner and he’s likely a lock to be the No. 1 player taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Cotton Bowl just proved that as he passed for 462 yards and five touchdowns with one pick on 37-of-52 completions. He looked like the obviously correct choice to win the Heisman and proved himself as the best player in the country yet again.
If he was allowed to go to the NFL after this season, he’d be the clear No. 1 pick.
Watching Williams for another season is going to be great.
