Season Overview: The season began well enough for the Golden Bears with a 3-1 record. The Bears proceeded to lose six consecutive games, three by one possession. Their season-ending loss to UCLA was also by one score. The offense was vanilla, and the defense was not as good as it usually is; the result was a 4-8 record.
2023 Outlook: California’s six-game losing streak also resulted in offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave and offensive line coach Angus McClure getting fired during the season. Head coach Justin Wilcox hired former Texas State head coach Jake Spavital as offensive coordinator. Spavital’s first order of business is to find a quarterback to replace Jake Plummer.
