Florida State football: 3 second-year players who’ll become stars in 2023
Azareye’h Thomas might earn one of the starting spots at cornerback next season, but with Akeem Dent returning to the defensive backfield, that’s going to be even tougher. While he’s the “buck” for the Seminoles, it takes away a potential starting spot for a guy like Thomas
And Fentrell Cypress II transferred in this offseason which means that Thomas is going to have to scratch and claw his way up the depth chart.
I like what Thomas did as a freshman in 2022, recording 14 total tackles with two tackles for loss, an interception, and a pass deflection. He was one of the bright young stars on the roster and it feels like he’s on the verge of becoming something special in the Seminoles’ defensive backfield.
Thomas came to Florida State as a top-100 prospect at No. 89 overall, according to the 247Sports composite, and he was the nation’s fourth-best athlete. He has good size for a cornerback at 6-2 and 180 pounds, and he has the potential to be one of the best in the ACC.
