Heading into College Football Week 3, here are five head coaches on the College Football Hot Seat that need a win.
We are only three weeks into the 2023 college football season and technically only two weeks for some programs since only a handful played in Week 0.
However, that doesn’t mean that college football head coaches aren’t on the hot seat already. Winning is the only way to cool the hot seat and so far, some of the head coaches haven’t done that.
Jimbo Fisher is the biggest name right now on the college football hot seat. The Texas A&M football head coach and his team suffered a tough loss at Miami last week. It’s one that got folks talking about whether or not he will ever succeed in College Station.
Fisher was brought in to make Texas A&M football a national title contender. Instead, the Aggies have one No. 1 recruiting class and a single double-digit win season to show for their massive investment.
The loss to Miami, in the second season of a rebuild/reload under Mario Cristobal, in a half-empty stadium, seems to have really stuck in the craw of Texas A&M football fans who believe the program should be a national title contender.
Texas looks like one right now, which is only going to add pressure to Fisher. However, he’s not the only college football head coach on the hot seat, and here are five head coaches who need a win in College Football Week 3.
College football hot seat: Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M football
The 48-33 loss to Miami has people talking about Fisher’s job again. Louisiana Monroe isn’t a juggernaut by any means and the Aggies should cruise to an easy win.
But The Warhawks are 2-0 and coached by Terry Bowden. He’s pulled a few upsets in his career and his team can certainly pound the rock with an average of 246 yards per game on the ground.
Yet, even a tight game will heat things up for Fisher. The Aggies have to win in dominant fashion and if somehow, there was an upset, it might be the end for Jimbo.
For his sake, Texas A&M needs to cover the spread and start winning some big names…soon.

College Football Hot Seat: Tom Allen, Indiana
Tom Allen started the season on the college football hot seat. His team was competitive against Ohio State, but a 20-point loss and a win over Indiana State won’t satisfy any doubters.
The Hoosiers are a 10-point underdog according to DraftKings against Louisville this week (at home), so it’s not going to be easy. But the best way for coaches to keep their jobs is to win games you aren’t supposed to and Indiana hasn’t done that since 2021.
The offense is 106th in scoring offense, but 30th in scoring defense and if Indiana can find a way, it will make a bowl game more likely.
Allen will also have a better shot at returning.
College Football Hot Seat: Bretty Pry, Virginia Tech
Brett Pry is off to a 4-8 start at Virginia Tech and the Hokies are fresh off a 24-17 home loss against Purdue.
Now, the Hokies hit the road to take on 2-0 Rutgers and Virginia Tech is a seven-point underdog. Grant Wells hasn’t been bad at quarterback. The offense is averaging just 327 yards per game and a loss to Rutgers is going to have a restless fanbase even more worried about the future.

College Football Hot Seat: Neal Brown, West Virginia
West Virginia won in impressive fashion last week over Duquesne, but Penn State rolled the Mountaineers in Week 1, 38-15.
Neal Brown, who has just one winning season since coming over from Troy to be the Mountaineers head coach, desperately needs to get things going and a win over Pitt this Saturday would certainly be a feather in his cap.
It’s a rivalry game, one that the Panthers won last season (38-31) and another loss this year will only ramp up the hot-seat talk for Brown.
College Football Hot Seat: Jeff Hafley, Boston College
After a pair of six-wins seasons to start his tenure with Boston College, things have gone downhill quickly for the Eagles, who lost to Northern Illinois in Week 1, only to barely beat Holy Cross last week 31-28.
It’s possible that Boston College is the worst team in Power-5 college football. Maybe the worst in the FBS period. It’s not a good look and after a 3-9 season in 2022, getting embarrassed by Florida State on Saturday won’t look good.
You can’t really expect Boston College to win this game, although it might actually save Hafley’s job if it did. Yet, If it looks like BC doesn’t even belong on the same field as the Seminoles, it could hasten the end of the Hafley era in Chestnut Hill.
