Oklahoma football: 3 takeaways from Sooners dominating win over Iowa State
2. Dillon Gabriel is still an Elite quarterback
Dillon Gabriel entered this game with Iowa State, completing 92 of 118 of his passes for 1,227 yards. That’s a 78.0 percent completion rate. Most things stayed the same in this game. Gabriel gashed the Iowa State defense all game long with his arm and legs, and there wasn’t anything the Cyclones could do to slow down this high-octane attack.
70-6, that’s what Oklahoma’s offense did to teams they’ve played this year in the first quarter, and that didn’t change as the Sooners put up 21 points in the first quarter. Dillon Gabriel continued to open the field with the Sooners offense and gash up the Iowa State defense in the first half as he ended up with two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.
It was going to be difficult for the Iowa State defense to slow down Dillon Gabriel in this game; we all knew that the weapons he had in this game would be too much. Gabriel ended this contest by completing 26 of 39 passes for 366 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. He added eight rushes for 37 yards and two touchdowns. This was the breakout performance he needed to impress upon Sooner Nation, and it brought back some offensive mojo, which couldn’t have come at a better time.
