Iowa Football: 3 takeaways from ugly road win at Wisconsin
By Dante Pryor
3. Iowa Football offensive takeaways
In defense of Iowa’s offense, starting quarterback Cade McNamara was injured, and they were missing two tight ends, including Eric All, who was carted off during the game’s second series. McNamara and tight end Luke Lachey are likely out for the season due to injury. McNamara has a season-ending knee injury, while Lachey has an ankle injury likely to keep him out for the year.
On a more positive note, the Hawkeyes ran for 200 yards, 82 of them on Leshon Williams’ touchdown run. The offensive line did a good job run blocking for Williams and the running game.
Wisconsin offensive takeaways
The Hawkeyes were not the only team that had injury issues. Badgers starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai left the game in the first half with what appeared to be a hand injury. The SMU transfer was hardly adequate, throwing for 106 yards on 20 pass attempts.
Despite hiring offensive coordinator Phil Longo, Braelon Allen is the engine that runs the Wisconsin offense. If you can slow him, the Badgers’ offense sputters. Allen had 87 yards and no touchdowns Saturday afternoon. Wisconsin is usually more physical on the offensive line, but they had issues blocking Iowa all game.
