Big 12 Football Power Rankings After Week 7
By Erika Brown
6. Kansas (5-2, 2-2 conference)
Sitting in the middle of the 2 win teams in the conference, Kansas lost a heartbreaker on Saturday against Oklahoma State. Jason Bean had 5 total touchdowns in the game, but also 2 costly interceptions. The defense could not stop the run game, giving up 218 yards on the ground. Luckily Kansas has a bye week before they go on to face Oklahoma in week 9.
5. Kansas State (4-2, 2-1 conference)
Kansas State bounced back from their first Big 12 loss with a dominating win over Texas Tech. Freshman quarterback Avery Johnson had 5 rushing touchdowns in the game after Will Howard was benched in the second half. The team ran well most of the game, with 272 yards on the ground. Kansas State runs into TCU this week with a rematch of the Big 12 Championship last year.
4. Oklahoma State (4-2, 2-1 conference)
Oklahoma State had one of their best running days since, surprisingly, 1989. Sophomore running back Ollie Gordon had 168 and a touchdown on the ground AND 116 and a touchdown through the air. Quarterback Alan Bowman didn’t throw an interception, and the defense stepped up to sack Bean 4 times. Oklahoma State hopes to continue their win streak and keep the momentum up when they travel to Morgantown to take on a West Virginia team looking to bounce back this week.
