College Football Rankings 2023: Projected playoff Top 25 for Week 10
UCLA faced one of the darlings of college football on Saturday night and came away with a nice win. The Bruins shut down the Buffaloes offensively as they couldn’t seem to do much of anything on that side of the ball. Chip Kelly’s team will get some love from the committee as a fringe top-20 team.
Air Force had a sneaky road game in Week 9 at Colorado State. The Rams haven’t been great this season but they’ve been a thorn in the sides of some better teams like Colorado. The Falcons went into halftime tied and were able to pull away in the third quarter. An impressive road win for this team as it continues its quest for a New Year’s Six bowl.
Tennessee went on the road and shook off a disappointing loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa last weekend after leading by two scores to beat Kentucky this weekend. This was one of those games that will prove to the committee that the Volunteers belong in the playoff rankings, but it won’t be enough to bump them up too much from the AP Poll.
Will Utah see a massive drop in the rankings? Honestly, it’s very likely. The Utes are without their starting quarterback for the rest of the season and they just got dominate in a prove-it game at home against Oregon. That’s a recipe for not getting any respect from the playoff committee. This is a Top 25 team, but I’m not sure that it’s in that top-20 range right now.
Oregon State went to Arizona on Saturday night and suffered a surprising loss to the improved Wildcats. Jonathan Smith’s team was on the verge of cracking the top 10 but a loss to Arizona after holding a 17-13 lead in the fourth quarter will drop the Beavers down to No. 16.
