Links At Lunch 1/25/2012: Oklahoma Gets Kish; Recruiting Gets Spiritual

facebooktwitterreddit

Oklahoma announced the hiring of former Arizona linebackers coach-turned-defensive coordinator-turned-interim head coach Tim Kish as its LB coach yesterday. Allen Kenney of

BlatantHomerism.com

asked me to give some thoughts on Kish, which can be read

. The

Crimson and Cream Machine

had its own take, specifically that

Kish solidifies Oklahoma’s California recruiting pipeline

(the Sooners already boast San Diego-area wideout Kenny Stills, and will welcome another SD product in Taylor McNamara next season).

Meanwhile Kish’s former home received perhaps the splashiest commitment in its recent history. Trey Griffey is headed to UA to play wide receiver, per The Tucson Citizen‘s Anthony Gimino. The national attention Griffey’s signing brings Rich Rodriguez and Arizona — like that given by Crystal Ball Run — is an important marketing tool for the Wildcats’ recruiting efforts, I wrote over at AZDesertSwarm.com.

that Florida head coach

Will Muschamp’s efforts to woo Georgia-based recruit Josh Harvey Clemons include attending church

  • The madness of Signing Day can bring out the worst in some fans. Death Valley Voice’s Buzz Breeden puts out a much-needed reminder that star ratings and expectations don’t always prove accurate.
  • Sunday’s passing of Joe Paterno has made football even more of an afterthought than it already was for Penn State. “Hundreds” viewed Paterno today per the Associated Press. In the background is the continued formation of Bill O’Brien’s staff for 2012, as O’Brien takes on double duty in preparation for the New England Patriots readying for the stout New York Giants defense. Victory Bell Rings has some possibilities.
