Louisiana Tech Mascot Tech XX Dies; A Plea To Readers
By Kyle Kensing
Louisiana Tech offered a $2,000 cash reward for the safe return of its mascot, Tech XX, when it was believed the English bulldog went missing from his home at the Sexton Animal Health Center. Sadly, Tech XX’s disappearance was actually a cover-up. An employee left Tech XX in the Louisiana heat, and the four-year old dog died of heat stroke.
Live mascots like Tech XX add to the pageantry of college football, and these animals are almost always well cared for. What happened to Tech XX is an unfortunate anomaly due to one person’s negligence. But outside of the football world, far too many animals are left to suffer because of mistreatment or neglect.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals works diligently to curb such abuse. Becoming an ASPCA guardian is a great way to contribute to its efforts, but for those who cannot afford a monetary commitment can make another pledge.
