Assistant athletic director Brad Smith tweeted the above photo of the UAB helmets the Blazers will wear in Saturday’s spring game. UAB concludes its 15-day practice season on April 27, the two-year anniversary of the devastating tornadoes that ravaged Alabama and killed 241 people.

Recovery around the state is far from complete, a point to which the football program strives to bring awareness. UAB football is also recognizing those who have reached out in the two years since the tornadoes. Per UABSports.com:

"UAB Athletics is utilizing this event as a platform to promote weather safety, to continue to remember the affected communities, and to recognize our local hometown heroes. UAB Football is inviting all hometown heroes from the local affected communities who were able to lend a helping hand to their neighbors that day to be honored on the sideline during the opening kickoff."

The Blazers finished 3-9 in head coach Garrick McGee’s first season, and 2-6 in Conference USA.
