Lightning delays Michigan State, Western Michigan tilt

EAST LANSING – The only thing hitting harder than the rain at Spartan Stadium is Western Michigan’s defense.

Michigan State leads 7-0 with 11:19 remaining in the first half. The game was delayed because of lightning.

The Broncos forced five MSU punts and only allowed drives of 32, 7, 4, and 17 yards. WMU has not given up an offensive touchdown.

Junior linebacker Donald Celiscar led WMU with six tackles, followed by a host of Broncos who each had two tackles, respectively.

In a combined effort, MSU quarterbacks Andrew Maxwell and Connor Cook were 8 of 15 for 46 yards. Not what national prognosticators expected for a conference title contender.

WMU senior quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen played shaky. Although a replay overturned the play, his first pass was intercepted. He completed four passes for 25 yards and two interceptions.

The game will resume at 10 p.m., and fans may re-enter the stadium at 9:40 p.m.
