FLORIDA ATLANTIC KEY: FAU is returning 15 starters from last season, including quarterback Jaquez Johnson. The junior started and won the Owls final four games last season. His continued development is going to be key to FAU if they are going to but together a bowl-worthy season.
Stopping Nebraska is going to be more based on stopping their running game than Johnson, however. Ameer Abdullah is one of the best backs in college football and will be very difficult to stop.
NEBRASKA KEY: The Cornhuskers are looking for their 29th straight win to open a season, the nation’s longest active streak. As mentioned, Abdullah is back in an attempt to keep the streak alive and make a run at the Big Ten title.
But the season hinges on the development of Tommy Armstrong at quarterback. The sophomore now has an offseason of growth under his belt and will have the opportunity to display that development on the field this afternoon.
